Tawaf is the second rite, and is performed around the K'ba.
What Tawaf comprises of is having to circle the K'ba 7 times.
each time you go round, you want to get closer to the holy
rock. this symbolises trying to get closer to God, who is
represented by the K'ba. Each time you go past, you raise
your hand, as if in greeting or trying to actually reach
out to God. this, like other thing is done because the
Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, actually did it himself
many many years ago.
